Are there any alternatives to double paned glass windows for a newer home? I've noticed that homes that have double paned windows commonly have them lose their seal which allows air in and out and lets moisture between the panels of glass. My home needs some of these windows replaced. Are there any alternatives for these type of windows that will fit my home? It is about 15 years old. I hate to replace them and have them continue to lose their seal on a regular basis

Is there any way to keep birds from flying into our large plate glass windows? We live in the woods and the birds fly at a high rate of speed thru the trees and do not notice that there are windows in front of them. They bang into the plate glass and some die. Some just get addled and then fly away when they come to their senses. It is pitiful, and I am sure there is a way to stop it from happening. I just can't think of a way to show the birds a detour sign.
Do you know of any place which recycles large glass windows? This question does not truly fit in Green Living, but I determined that my chances of receiving an answer would be greatest in this category... I am looking to sell old tinted glass windows from a sun room which I recently remodeled. They are very large, double-paned windows. Do you know of any place in the Houston, Texas area that recycles glass of this nature? Or even in the vicinity?
Want to make 2 new holes in room wall to refurbish & install 2 old leaded glass windows -any ideas/web sites? We need more natural light in the family room. We have 2 20"x19" leaded stain glass windows that we want to put on either side of the fireplace. So we need 2 new holes in the wall. In the past we put a hole in our basement wall to install a new window, but that was concrete block and a different situation. What we want to know is if there is anyone out there who may have added windows in their homes from scratch. We have within the past few years replaced the windows in our home by ourselves with prefab windows, so we have some experience with framing etc. We are particularly looking for a way to take these leaded glass windows, which are probably 80+ years old but in great shape, and somehow use them to create the old-fashioned design one would see in a mid-century bungalow - windows flanking either side of the fireplace and swinging open into the room from the side. Does anybody have any ideas or any website that might help us accomplish all of this? Thanks!

All help is appreciated! Thanks!
How do I fix leaded glass windows? What are my options? I am scraping and recaulking and painting an old (117 yrs) window with a lead glass top. The design is actually made up of 10 individual pieces that are caulked(?) together in an accordian-type manner. Some of the pieces are loose, as the caulk has worn away. How do I go about fixing them? I am afraid that if I scrape the old stuff off, they will all fall out and break. We are getting it ready to get a storm window put over it and want it to look nice.

Where to find decorative coverings for glass windows in Canada? I'm moving into a basement apartment that doen't have a very nice view from the windows. I'm trying to find something to cover the windows with that will allow light in but provide a scenic view from the inside such as a beach or forest (something similar to when you cover a bathroom window with frosted liner) It doesn't matter if it's adhesive, cling-on or screen. I've tried to find a Canadian website or store that sells this but can't find any. I have seen some American sites that sell beautiful scenic window coverings but for a small basement the price would run too high for me to order anything. Can anyone suggest where in Canada I can find something like this? Thanks for any information provided. What heats up the house more when the sun shines through it - single pane glass windows or double pane? We all know double pane glass keeps the heat inside the house better on cold days because of insulation values, but is there a difference between the two when it comes to sunlight shining in? After all, that works on a different physical basis, doesn't it? I'm only asking because I think it's quite handy that the sun heats up the house during the day, but it would be nice if that warmth would then stick around after sunset. It just wouldn't make sense to put in double-glazing to do that if it also means that the sun wouldn't heat up the house anymore. Any ideas, anyone? Thanks.
Does anyone know how to get plastic suction cups to stick to glass windows? I have tried cleaning the glass and the suction cups, wetting them, drying them etc. Some stick well whilst others refuse to stick for more than a few seconds. Any ideas? How can I remove hard water stains from glass (windows/ mirrors)? I have tried CLR but it does not work, vinegar cleans the glass but does not remove stains, razors tend to scratch and so does scrubing it with scrub pads...any ideas would be greatly appreciated. It is not my personal residence that has this problem. I work for a property management company in Pullman, WA which is in the middle of farm country. There is over 2000 aprtment units that need to be cleaned in a imely manner so I need something that can get the job done that is inexpensive and that my employees can use with out much supervision. We don't have a whole lot of time to scrap hard water off windows with razors which is caused by the sprinklers. We have great cleaners that are able to get it of fiberglass, porcline and stainless steel and chrome but windows and mirror are always a problem. Vinegar does not cut throught the build up. Any additional ideas would be great!
Does anyone know what kind of paint can be painted on glass windows to block out all light? I want to paint my bedroom windows to block out all light. The curtains I made still allow light around the edges. I want to make it completely dark in my bedroom, even in the middle of the day (my husband sleeps during the day). What kind of paint and what color would do the job? I can't use shutters, as condensation will build up, and mold will start to grow on the window sashes. I really need to find out if there's a paint I can use that won't peel, blister or crack from being exposed to the sun (window faces east). Thank you for any help you can give. <*)))>< Are you sure that spray paint will work? I want to make sure that the heat from the sun won't crack the paint on the window, and that I won't constantly have to re-apply it. Also, I HAVE tried the tinted window stuff and it still allows too much light in. Thank you for your responses. <*)))>< I've also heard about putting tin foil on the window, but I can't do that because I have too much condensation on my window, and nothing sticks to damp vinyl window sashes. <*)))><
