What do the pictures on stained glass windows represent?
I am doing a project on stained glass windows and I need to know what the pictures symbolize. I know that the two keys are the keys to the gates of heaven given to peter, but there are some like an ox, that odd hat the pope wears, and many more. I would like to k now what these pictures symbolize and any answers will be greatly appreciated.

- if you want any answers you need to give us a link to the image and tell us where the window is located. There are probably millions of stained glass windows in this world.
- Here is an A -Z list. Some images have two meanings as you will see when you come to Ox - which means strength and is the Symbol of St. Luke. http://www.religionfacts.com/christianity/symbols/a-z.htm Four the four apostle symbols go to http://catholic-resources.org/Art/Evangelists_Symbols.htm 'For symbols of Peter and the Pope go to http://landru.i-link-2.net/shnyves/pope.symbols.html As regards the shape of the pope's hat it is in the shape of a fish. See fish symbol meaning in first link I have give you. Some stained glass windows focus on just one Christian character and it can be the patron saint of that church. There is very good book called Signs and Symbols in Christian Art which cover everything you want to know.
